The absolute silence, isolated from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. No highways, horns, sirens or political pundits. Not even the sound of a gentle breeze. The lack of these amplified the incredible vast expanse of the valley in front of me, largely void of signs of humans. The long shadows of the mesas slowly overcame the sage and cacti covered red dirt stretching the miles between me and the valley walls. Empty and isolated though completely peaceful and satisfying. The beauty of the most incredible sunset contrasting with the dead juniper shrubs. All visible signs of life gone, their purpose still in full force. Along with the weathering rock and erosion gullies, they tell the story of the harsh life in the valley of Ghost Ranch New Mexico. All working together for the overall beauty of the landscape.
